Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Cardiff Wine Passport?

The Cardiff Wine Passport is a unique way to explore some of Cardiff’s best-loved independent bars & restaurants.

Created with the help of FOR Cardiff's City Ambition fund, it is designed to introduce wine & food lovers to some of Cardiff’s smaller, independent venues - those which are often overlooked in favour of the multinational chains which dominate the city centre.

Where can I use it?

Ten amazing independent city-centre venues have signed up to be part of the current Cardiff Wine Passport. They are Asador 44, Bar 44, Bacareto, Daffodil, Curado Bar, Vermut, The Dead Canary, Lab 22, Parallel and Nighthawks.

How does it work?

You swap six passport stamps for six wine ‘flights’ (standard 125ml glasses*, choosing from 10 different city-centre venues.

*Except at The Dead Canary where you can choose one of two exclusive wine cocktails!

Each venue has allocated a specific number of glasses to offer as part of the passport scheme - but much like a food festival, if a venue has 'sold out' of its allocation for the week or is too busy at the time of your visit, just pop along to the next one on your list. The aim of the passport is to help you to discover new venues and wines you might not have considered before.

Rest assured, there are enough glasses of wine allocated for everyone with a passport, and every venue is based in the city centre (all within a 2 - 5 minute walk).

When can I use the passport?

Your 2024 passport is valid for 6 weeks, from 5th Feb - 7th April, from Sunday - Thursday only. Some venues will only accept passports on certain days - please check the details for each individual venue; you can find these at the top of each page inside your passport.

How many stamps can I get in each venue?

You can only redeem one stamp per venue.

What about food pairings, are these included?

Food pairings at each venue are not included in the cost of the passport, but we have made suggestions for dishes and snacks at each stop which would pair perfectly with the wine of your choice.

Whether you choose to try these is entirely up to you and subject to an extra cost, payable directly to the venue. Go on, treat yourself!

Pair a glass of Reisling at Parallel with their leek & Caerphilly cheese croquettes.

Are all of the wines included suitable for vegans?

We would recommend you check with each venue before stamping your passport; venues will be able to offer a vegan alternative if necessary.

Does it work out as value for money?

Yes. Each passport costs £26; by using your passport, you will be paying just over £4 a glass for a selection of handpicked wines which usually retail at £6-7 per glass.

Sign me up! Where can I get a passport?

Right here.

Passports will be made available for collection from Daffodil, one of the participating venues; simply show your order receipt to the staff when you come to pick it up.

You will receive an email confirmation when your passport is ready to collect.

What should I do with my passport when I’m finished with it?

We have designed this passport with sustainability in mind; it’s made from 100% recycled paper and is fully recyclable - just pop it into your recycling bin at home when you are finished with it.
